How to Inhale Vape – Everything You Need to Know
So you’ve decided to give vaping a go, but after getting confused by your new device you’re now scouring the internet searching things like “how to inhale vape”.
Although you might feel a bit silly, this is actually surprisingly common and quite a few new users get confused the first time they pick up their shiny new device.
To help clear up the confusion and get you on the road to indulging in those delicious clouds as soon as possible, here’s how to inhale vape devices properly!
Types of Vaping Techniques
If you’re new to vaping you might not know it yet, but there are a number of different vaping techniques. When you first come across them, they might sound all fancy and technical but they’re actually pretty simple really.
The purpose of this post is to teach you how to inhale vape devices properly, so to do that let’s go over the most common methods of vaping so you can get a good idea of how each one works.
How to Inhale Vape – Mouth to Lung (MTL)
Assuming you’re a beginner, the mouth-to-lung (MTL) technique is the one you should probably start with. In truth, if you’ve just switched from smoking then this will most likely be the one you naturally do anyway.
This method generally suits a vaper who wants the best flavour and highest nicotine absorption, and it’s also great if you’re making the transition from smoking as it’s the style of vaping most similar to what you’re used to.
How to Inhale Vape – MTL Technique
MTL vaping is the style that’s best-suited to the vape pens you’ll find in most starter kits, so if that’s the type of device you’re using then this is most definitely the place to start.
For the MTL technique, you basically inhale the same way that you would if you were smoking a cigarette. You place your lips on the mouthpiece and draw the vapour into your mouth before inhaling it into your throat and lungs.
MTL vaping is a great way to acclimate yourself to your new passtime and it gives you greater control over the amount of vapour you’re inhaling, which is another reason it’s extremely well-suited to beginners.
How to Inhale Vape – Direct to Lung (DTL)
Along with MTL vaping, the other most common technique is direct-to-lung (DTL). Generally, this style of vaping produces a denser cloud and some decide to go down this route once they’ve been vaping for a while.
You usually get sweeter flavours and less “throat hit” using this technique as the large plumes of vapour created have a much smoother texture.
DTL vaping is the best method if you crave those large clouds of vapour and those who use this style are known as “cloud chasers”.
How to Inhale Vape – DTL Technique
DTL vaping is exactly as it sounds. Unlike MTL where you inhale to your mouth and then your lungs, with DTL you inhale the vapour straight into your lungs.
In order to perform DTL vaping you’ll need a sub-ohm device which is capable of vaporising an e-liquid that’s high in vegetable glycerine (VG). If you try to DTL using a plus-ohm device and a 50/50 e-liquid it’ll likely be too harsh and produce insufficient vapour.
To DTL vape, start by placing your lips around the mouthpiece before pressing the fire button and inhaling slowly. The only difference here is rather than inhaling it into your mouth, take it straight into your lungs instead, as if you’re breathing from the vape device.
When you first start vaping this way, it can feel different to what you’re used to and this technique is generally not advised for beginners, although in the end it all comes down to how you feel.
As well as MTL and DTL vaping, there are a few other vaping styles. These include restricted direct-to-lung (RDL) and half DL, but assuming you’re just starting your vaping journey then it’s probably not wise to confuse things!
