Finding the right wattage for your vape kit can be a little overwhelming at times. You can go through the hassle of buying a kit, picking up the correct replacement coils, charging the device up, and then still have to deal with the misunderstanding of finding the right wattage for your kit. So let's jump into what you need to know:
What is vape wattage?
Vape wattage is a personal choice that plays a big part in your vaping journey. Whether you prefer the flavour and thick cloud production of high VG vape juice or the intense hit of high PG e-liquids, a higher wattage will increase the temperature of your coil so more vapour will be produced.
The biggest misconception about vape wattage is that a lower wattage vape will not deliver a quality vape and a higher vape wattage is always better. This is not the case, and for most vapers out there who enjoy a balance between a pleasant throat hit and a rich vape flavour, a vape with a wattage of 20W or less will be more than enough.
Is wattage always important when vaping?
Your preferred vaping wattage will depend on how experienced you are in vaping and the sort of vaping you’d like to get out of your device. Most disposable vape kits, vape pod devices, vape pens and vape starter kits are designed to emulate the sensations of tobacco cigarettes and generally have a wattage output between 5 watts and 20 watts. Pre-filled disposable vapes (like ELF BAR and Geek Bar) will typically have a wattage output of around 11W. In 2023, sub-ohm vape devices can now output up to 230W or more so it’s no surprise that the misconception that a higher wattage equates to high-quality vaping has been adopted by so many.
As most people start to vape more consistently, they’ll gradually start to use a device with a higher output range between 20W-100W. At these wattages you’ll really start to experience all of the subtleties in your e-liquid, allowing you to find the ideal all-day vape flavour for you. Within this range, the details like the thickness of the vapour clouds and throat hit also become more noticeable. Cloud chasing in 2023 couldn't be easier because altering your wattage range gives you all the power.
What wattage is best for flavour?
The perfect balance of vapour and flavour for most is anywhere between 50 and 100 watts- which also depends on your coil choice of course. You will likely find that recommendations for the perfect wattage are included in your vaping manual, your vape kit has a system that auto-corrects to the coil you've inserted, or you've been advised by a clerk in a vape store. It can't hurt to test the waters and tweak the different wattages on your device work before you decide what's perfect for you so make sure you experiment with ideal wattage level combinations to find the ideal number.
What happens when you vape with a low wattage
A low vape wattage means vaping at a decreased power level, which will extend your battery life and increase the overall life expectancy of your device in general. Lower vapour temps will result in less vaporisation and a weaker vaping experience. It should be noted that every e-liquid has a numerical cut-off level where your vape juice will start delivering a burnt hit. When this happens, make sure you lower the wattage of your device!
