Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition Review / A Facelift Fit For A King

Voopoo have taken their Vinci Pod Kit that we reviewed back in April 2021 and given it a complete makeover in terms of its aesthetics and named it their Vinci Pod Royal Edition. It has to be said this new range really does have some stunning designs.

While this Vinci Pod Royal Edition is a new looking pod and it really does look good, its specification and function remains the same as the original Vinci Pod with the exception they’ve included a second pod with this kit; a 1.2 ohm pod.

The two pods in this Royal Edition kit, the 0.8 ohm and the 1.2 ohm are now both top fill, where previously the original 0.8 ohm pod when we reviewed it was a side fill. These two pods, the 0.8 ohm and 1.2 ohm again we’ve seen when we reviewed the Drag Nano 2 Pod kit back in October 2021.

Having used the original Vinci pod kit for well over 6 months I can still say it performs really well and is a great little device. Equally the included pods in the Drag Nano 2 pod kit produce good flavor and vapor alike.

While we will go through all the details, functions and specifications of the Vinci Pod Royal Edition, this review will be streamlined(ish) in comparison to the other two reviews to avoid too much duplication.

Anyway, on to the nitty gritty to see what it’s all about.

The Vinci Pod Royal Edition is a fixed 11-15W draw activated Mouth to Lung (MTL) pod device powered by an internal 800mAh battery. Made out of aviation grade 6061 aluminum and zinc alloy, it comes in 6 stunning designs. The included pods are top fill with a 2ml e-liquid capacity and have an integral 0.8 ohm or 1.2 ohm coil in the pod meaning it’s not replaceable. When the coil degrades, the pod is disposed of and a new pod fitted.

Airflow adjustment is provided by a slider switch incorporated on the side of the Vinci Pod Royal Edition body. This allows the user to adjust for either a MTL or a Semi Restricted Direct to Lung (RDL) style vape. There are no other functions or controls other than a color changing LED that illuminates through 4 very small and very discrete pinholes on the front lower bottom of the Vinci body.

The color changing LED illuminates through the 4 small pinholes on the front panel when you draw on the pod which indicates the battery status and also when it’s being charged using the 3 different colors. In addition, safety notifications are also displayed with this tri-color LED.

Charging the Vinci Pod Royal Edition is carried out using the supplied charging cable that connects to the Type C USB port at the bottom of the device providing a full charge in approximately 1 hour.

This new Vinci Pod Royal Edition kit is a simple no fuss straightforward plug and play device with 2 different resistance pods producing very good results in terms of flavor and vapor. The level of detail and craftsmanship that’s gone into the 6 different designs really does make this stand out from the crowd.

The kit I received was part of a special limited edition gift pack from Voopoo and I have to say it was a really nice gesture on their part, thank you again.

Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition Design and Appearance

The Vinci Pod Royal Edition Body
The Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition pod is a Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) draw activated compact device measuring 70mm in height (93.5mm with the pod), 24mm wide by 14mm in depth making this a slim rectangular shape with slightly rounded edges.

Constructed out of aviation grade zinc and aluminium alloy, it’s very robust and considering its small size it’s packing quite a bit of weight. Not heavy by any means but you get the feeling straight away that it’s a quality product.

It delivers an adaptive fixed power output of 11 watts – 15 watts, depending on the coil resistance of the fitted pod, from its 800mAh internal battery. Charging is carried out via the Type-C USB port on the bottom of the body, specified as 5V/1A.

Super-fast auto draw is achieved by the GENE AI chip set, which also ensure the multitude of safety features are maintained, such as:

·Overtime Protection
·Output Over Current Protection
·Low Battery Protection
·Over Discharge  Protection
·Over Temperature Protection
·Over Charge Protection
·Atomizer Short-Circuit Protection

There are 6 different designs available in the Vinci Pod Royal Edition Kit range:

Now as the name suggests; Royal Edition, this is a thing of beauty. I received the Gold Leaf one from Voopoo and the minute I saw it I was blown away. The level of detail and craftsmanship of the panelling and overall finish on the body really does look superb.

I did get my magnifying glass out to check for any hallmarks just to see if it was solid gold but alas it was not to be!

The reverse side of the Vinci Pod Royal Edition body is a satin finish plain matching color with the words “Voopoo” and the “GENE” logo. The other side incorporates the stunning design panel with the 4 very small pinholes which have the tri-color LED imbedded beneath them.

These 4 very small pin holes at the bottom of the crafted panel illuminate with a color changing LED beneath them (3 colors) when you draw on the pod, charge the Vinci Pod Royal Edition or it’s displaying the different levels of protection. On the original Vinci pod version, the tri-color LED was concealed behind the GENI logo.

The tri-color LED is pretty bright and does shine brightly through the 4 small pinholes.

An adjustable airflow slider button is located on one side edge of the Vinci Pod Royal Edition body to allow for a MTL or RTL style vape experience. There is only a 3mm change from fully open to fully closed but it does give a good change of vaping style. The other side edge has a tiny fixed pinhole airflow opening which maintains a tight MTL draw even when the adjustable airflow is fully closed.

At the base of the Vinci body is the Type-C USB charging port specified as 5V/1A which will fully charge the device in approximately 1 hour. The bottom of the Vinci is slightly contoured but will stand upright, although not totally stable.

The top of the Vinci has a recessed opening for the pod to be located in with two gold plated spring loaded coil contact pins. There are no magnets that secure the pod to the device; it’s secured by a push snap fit design which does give a very secure fit.

The Vinci Pods
Vinci now include 2 different pods in the Royal Edition kit; a 0.8 ohm pod and a 1.2 ohm pod. They are an updated pod over the original with both now being a top fill design. Both pods are re-fillable with a 2ml e-liquid capacity and have a fixed integrated coil. The coil is not replaceable so once the coil degrades the whole pod will need replacing.

When first installing your pod, make sure you remove the thin plastic film from the base of the pod. The pods come shipped with this protector so they can’t be accidently fired.

Each pod is manufactured out of clear opaque lightweight PCTG material making this really easy to see the level of e-liquid through the pod. The mouthpiece is a black duckbill shape with a 6mm oval opening tapering to a 4mm circular cut out to cater for the MTL vape style.

The duckbill mouthpiece is removable giving access to the fill port. This is a snap fit so will require a little force to remove. When the mouthpiece is clear of the pod, a black silicone rubber fill port cover can be lifted away to reveal the fill port opening. The fill port cover is secured on one side, with the stopper covering the fill port on the other side. A small arrow on the black silicone rubber depicts which side is removable.

On the underside of the pod are the two gold plated coil contacts with a small triple airflow ingress port. There are no magnets on the pod, it simply pushes into the Vinci Royal Edition body and is held in place with a secure snap push fit method.

This method of fitting I found to be really secure, no movement or rattle whatsoever. There is no chance of the pod accidently becoming detached from the Vinci Royal Edition body. The pod is uni-directional therefore it can be fitted either way round.

On the lower section of the pod that fits into the pod recess of the Vinci Pod Royal Edition are the words “Voopoo” and the pod resistance in white lettering.

Most importantly, Voopoo state these pods are leak free. During the time I’ve been using these new top fill pods there were NO leaks or any condensation on the base of the pod or around the contact pins.

The Vinci top fill pods are backward compatible with the original Vinci 15W pod kit, Drag Nano 2 pod kit and the new Vinci Q pod kit which we will be reviewing shortly so keep an eye out.

Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition Functionality
The Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition kit has the same functionality as the original Vinci pod kit, therefore being very simple and straightforward to use. There are no menus to fiddle with, no wattage adjustments and no firing button.

Quite simply, all you have to worry about is charging the device, make sure you keep your chosen pod topped up with your favourite e-liquid, settle on your desired airflow setting and enjoy your vaping experience.

The only indication on the Vinci Pod Royal Edition pod is the hidden tri-color LED that illuminates through the 4 small pinholes when the pod is inserted, lights up when you draw on the device, and cycles when the device is on charge. The color changing LED will highlight the status of the battery with three colors as shown below:

·Green              – Full charge – 60% of charge
·Blue                 – 60% of charge – 20% of charge
·Red                 – 20% of charge – Full discharge

The GENE AI chip that controls the Vinci Pod Royal Edition maintains a constant output wattage throughout the discharge cycle of the battery, providing a fast responsive draw activated vape.  This chip also controls the included safety features and provides the visual indication via the tri-color LED as follows:

·Charging – LED cycles on and off with the appropriate color (red, blue then green)
·Full charge – constant green LED
·Current battery status – LED flashes once when pod is inserted
·Low battery – LED flashes red 10 times
·Short circuit – LED remains red for 2 seconds
·No atomizer – LED flashes red
·Overtime protection – LED flashes 8 times
·Over heat protection – LED flashes red 15 times

Airflow
The Vinci Pod Royal Edition kit incorporates adjustable airflow via a slider control on the side of the device. The level of adjustment is limited to about 3mm but does allow for a pretty tight MTL vape or a semi restrictive DTL vape experience.

Sliding the button downwards will open the airflow for a DTL vape. Sliding the button upwards will close the airflow off giving a tight MTL vape. I did notice that when the airflow is fully shut off the vape does become a little warmer.

In addition to the slider control, there is a very small pin hole just visible on the opposite side of the Vinci Pod Royal Edition body. This maintains the tight MTL vape even when the slider control is fully shut off.

Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition Performance
Included in the kit are two pods, one with a 0.8 ohm coil and the other with a 1.2 ohm coil. As we’ve already mentioned, these pods don’t have replaceable coils therefore once the coil becomes degraded, the pod will have to be disposed of and a new one fitted.

As with most MTL vape pods, nicotine salts or freebase with a PG/VG ratio of 50/50 is recommended because of the smaller wicking ports in the coil and the lower power (wattage) used.

When first using a new pod, I would recommend filling the pod with your e-liquid and leave it to stand for 10-15 minutes to allow the e-liquid to saturate into the wick before vaping. This will improve the longevity of the pod before it needs replacing.

One thing I did notice with both the supplied pods, removing the mouthpiece to fill with e-liquid was pretty difficult. Voopoo state pinching the sides of the duckbill mouthpiece will release its catch and lift away. The pods I had proved difficult to get the mouthpiece off. Once it had been released a couple of times it became easier.

Vinci Pod (0.8 ohm)
Having used this pod previously in the Drag Nano 2 kit I can honestly say the performance is really good. The flavor comes through really nice irrespective if I used nic salts or freebase. Vapor produced was pretty good, nothing more or less than you would expect from a low wattage device.

The 0.8 ohm pod that came with the Vinci Pod Royal Edition kit was no different. I’ve cycled about 40ml of e-liquid through the supplied pod with no loss of flavor. Having removed the pod periodically, to check for signs of leaking on the contact pins or in the pod recess, showed no evidence of e-juice at all.

For reference, when I bought the top fill 0.8 ohm replacement pods to use in my original Vinci and Drag Nano 2, I was getting on average around 6 weeks use out of each pod before the flavor started to become muted.
I really like this coil/pod and would definitely recommend it.

Vinci Pod (1.2 ohm)
This pod is equally as impressive as the 0.8ohm pod. Vapor was about the same as the 0.8 ohm coil and again with no signs of any leaking.
Similar to the 0.8 ohm pod, the usage of this 1.2 ohm pod before the flavor started to become muted was on average around 6 weeks. This is very impressive.

Auto Draw Activation
Irrespective of the airflow setting, the draw activation was always responsive and worked every time.

Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition Battery Performance
The Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition kit is powered by an internal 800mAh battery. Charging time is pretty impressive, taking approximately 60 minutes to fully charge via the on board 1 amp Type-C USB charger/cable.

As a medium to heavy vaper, I was achieving a good 12 hours vaping from a fully charged battery. I gauged the length of time I was achieving at the 3 set points of the tri-color LED and found it to be pretty repeatable with the following vape times:

·Green to Blue – Approx 4 hours
·Blue to Red – Approx 6 hours
·Red to Discharge – Approx 2 hours

When fully charged, while vaping, the LED will illuminate green indicating its charge status is between 60%-100%. Continuing vaping, the LED will change color from green to blue indicating the battery charge is between 20%-60%.

As the battery decreases, the LED will turn red with each draw indicating its charge status is between 0%-20%. At this point when the LED shows red, I was getting a good 1.5 hours vaping before the battery finally became discharged and required charging.

Once the LED flashes red 10 times, you will no longer be able to vape and will have to re-charge the battery.

How Do I Fill The Voopoo Vinci Pods?
The design of the pods, being a top fill, means you don’t have to remove it from the Vinci body to fill with e-liquid. Saying this, because the mouthpiece on the pod is a very secure fit, I would recommend removing the pod from the Vinci Pod Royal Edition before filling it.

By doing this, you at least get to check there is no e-liquid seepage in the pod recess and can keep everything clean and in working order.

The black duckbill mouthpiece on the top of the pod is removable. Simply grasp the bottom of the pod, squeeze the long flat sides of the mouthpiece together and pull away from the pod. This is very secure so will take a little force.

When the mouthpiece is removed there is a thin black silicone rubber cover that seals the opening of the filling port. A small arrow on the cover denotes which end is to be lifted away. Pull this flap open to reveal the oval fill port. The other end of the rubber flat is secured to the pod so it won’t get misplaced.

Fill the pod up with your e-liquid to approximately ¾ full and replace the black silicone rubber flap securely. Make sure when you’re filling, you fill the pod up using the end oval hole and NOT the center circular hole.

Refit the duckbill mouthpiece onto the pod making sure it securely snaps into position.

Quick Tip: If you are filling the pod for the first time, fill the pod and leave to stand for approx. 10-15 minutes before you start to vape. This will help saturate the wick fully in e liquid and help prolong the life of your coil.

When and How Do I Change The Vinci Pod?
Because the Vinci pod has a fixed coil and is NOT replaceable, when the coil starts to degrade the pod will need to be discarded and a new pod fitted.

An indication of the coil degrading will show by either a loss of flavor or a lack of vapor. Continuing beyond this loss of flavor/vapor will finally result in a severe nasty burnt taste. At this stage, discard the pod and fit a new one.

Pull the pod away from the Vinci Pod Royal Edition body. It’s quite a tight fit so will require a little pressure. Unfortunately if you still have e-liquid in the pod, this will have to be discarded as well.

When fitting a new pod, follow the procedure for How Do I Fill The Pod. As you insert the pod into the Vinci Pod Royal Edition body, the LED will briefly illuminate to identify the pod has been fitted.

How Do I Charge The Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition?
Using the supplied Type-C USB charging cable, plug the cable into the USB port on the bottom of the Vinci Royal Edition body. Connect the other end into a suitable power source (typically 5V/1A).

Whilst charging, the 4 little pinholes will illuminate and slowly cycle on and off. Voopoo state this operation as “Breathing”.

When first placed on charge, the 4 little pinholes will cycle red in color. After a short period of time (approx. 15mins), the color of the LED will turn blue. As the charging time further increases (approx. 20mins), the LED will cycle green in color for another 35mins.

Once fully charged, the tri color LED will remain constantly illuminated in green indicating the charge cycle has completed.

Charging time takes approximately 60 minutes to fully charge the battery using the supplied charging cable and an appropriate charging source.

The Vinci Pod Royal Edition kit doesn’t have a ‘pass-through” function therefore you won’t be able to charge and vape at the same time.

As always, NEVER leave your vape device unattended while on charge.

Limited Edition Gift Pack
As I highlighted in my overview, I received a special gift pack from Voopoo which included the Vinci Pod Royal Edition kit. I was very pleased to have received this gift pack and thought it was very nice of Voopoo to send this.

Here is a photo of said gift pack but do know it’s only the pod kit you will get when purchasing one. In the gift pack was the Vinci Pod Royal Edition Kit together with a fork and spoon, a bottle opener and a badge.

Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition Summary

I really liked using the original Vinci pod kit and have done for the last 6 months or so. The new Vinci Pod Royal Edition kit is just as good as the original and with that striking design and finish it looks even better now.

The Voopoo Vinci Pod Royal Edition kit is a very well built device. It looks really impressive and feels comfortable in the hand. Its 800mAh internal battery is pretty decent for the size of the pod kit and does last well between charges. Flavor and vapor from such a small discreet pod kit is very good.

The bonuses for me was the inclusion of the airflow control to allow for a MTL, RTL and DTL style vape and the lovely looking designs. Also the flavor and throat hit produced from both pods regardless of the e-juice i used was really good.

Because of its simplicity, the Vinci Pod Royal Edition kit is aimed more as a beginner’s vape kit but I have to be honest and say I do like taking mine out because of its ease of use. My Gold Leaf design one certainly turns heads and is a talking point while out.

I feel Voopoo have taken an already proven device and made it even better, certainly in terms of its appearance.

Hope you enjoyed this review and found it useful.
